Equivocator mean and example in Shakespheare play

an “equivocator” is a person who speaks ambiguously or doesn’t tell the whole truth.

An example can be:

Just after he has been named Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth is wondering if he can believe the rest of the witches’ prophecies, and Banquo remarks, “oftentimes, to win us to our harm, / The instruments of darkness tell us truths, / Win us with honest trifles, to betray’s / In deepest consequence” . Banquo is warning Macbeth that the witches could lure him to great evil by telling small truths. Even though Banquo doesn’t use the word “equivocation,” it’s what he’s talking about.

Summary of act 4, scene 3

This scene starts with Malcolm and Macduff talking about what they should be doing now, because Macbeth was doing all the things that the witches told him to do. Then Malcolm said lets seek and cry in this poor times, but Macduff said “no, we must have to think an idea to confront Macbeth, but for a reason Malcolm remind him with asking why he leave his family? Macduff don’t said nothing, because Malcolm told him that wasn’t for anger him, only to now , because Malcolm think was for protecting himself, that was what he was thinking. Later Malcolm said that Macbeth is a very powerful man, but anyone compares to him, and Macduff response that he could not compare to him, because Macbeth is like a demon Macduff said. Frustated he said it was better be king for a big man, than me Malcolm said. But with a extrange change of humor he said happily “I would not be defeated by Macbeth” , he said he’s even worst than him, he would be even more greedy and devil.They continue talking about it and after the conversation a doctor enter , then Macduff says that Malcolm is poisoned by the evil and what they also can do, then the doctor said don’t let your mind decide for you, you must control it. Couple of minutes later Ross enter , announcing the murders of Lady Macduff and his son. Malcolm said keep calm we will take revenge of this tomorrow with an incredible plan to Macduff.

Summary of act 4, scene 2

This scene starts with Ross and Lady Macduff talking about why she’s husband left him. They said he is a traitor and no matter what reason why they left them in the castle with the murderers and the insecurity that it generates, then his son start to talk with his mother and she desperate said “what are you going to do now, you don’t have a father” later his son said “I will live like the birds in the sky” then the mother told him that he is very ingenuous in the fact of thinking ideas, but also pitiful, because that wasn’t a good idea, then she said again, what are they going to now, the son said then that maybe you should do for your husband. Then they continue and the son ask if his father was a traitor and the true was said his mother, without his son knowing what was a traitor his mother respond that is a person who makes a promise, but it brakes it. Then a messenger come with telling Lady Macduff that some bad people are approaching fast , with that news lady Macbeth was very nervous and scared, instantly three murderers enter and ask for her husband, and she responses “he leave us, with the fact that he is a traitor, then the son respond to the murderer and the murder gets angry and kill him , and the mother very scared run away crying “! Murder!”
